The sportsbooks

Betting by tier

A bookmaker’s margin is the one number that tells you what it costs to bet there, and it is the number hardest to get an honest version of. This page prints every margin in the fact base with the sample it came from attached, and refuses to put two different samples in the same column.

Measured the same way, so comparable

Four books had their whole football card measured: every match on the book carrying a home, draw and away price, not a selected league. These four can be read against each other.

Measured on one competition, so not comparable

These figures are real and each is printed with the reason it cannot sit in the table above. Read each one as a fact about the sample beside it rather than about the bookmaker.

No published price at all

Four books publish no obtainable prices: Bangbet, Melbet, MSport and Premier Bet. In each case the odds sit behind an interface that renders nothing to a reader outside Ghana, or behind a coupon that served fixtures which are not real matches. An invented margin would be the loudest wrong number on this site, so there is none.

The sportsbooks, in their bands

The rule for this list Every registered book, sorted into four tiers by a stated rule rather than by a decimal place.

Twelve books of the thirteen on the register take sports bets. The rest is a casino only and is not on this page.

Some of the links below pay us a commission when someone opens an account. The band a book sits in is set by the count of questions it leaves unanswered and by nothing that is bought.

I Tier Answers everything, or all but one

Leaves at most one of the eighteen questions unanswered. Two books here, in alphabetical order, because inside a band there is no order.

Bookmaker Eighteen questions Published margin Unanswered
BetFox 4.21% on a single-competition sample 0of 16 Open
Premier Bet No margin published. 6 sports on its own navigation. 1of 11 Open
II Tier Answers nearly everything

Leaves two or three unanswered. One book here, in alphabetical order, because inside a band there is no order.

Bookmaker Eighteen questions Published margin Unanswered
betPawa 5.08% on its whole football book 3of 16 Open
III Tier Answers most of it

Leaves four, five or six unanswered. Five books here, in alphabetical order, because inside a band there is no order.

Bangbet No margin published. 1 sports on its own navigation. 6of 18 Open
Betway 8.98% on a single-competition sample 6of 16 Open

Soccabet 5.12% on a single-competition sample 6of 18 Open
SportyBet 6.12% on its whole football book 4of 18 Open
IV Tier Most of the sheet stays blank

Leaves seven or more unanswered. Four books here, in alphabetical order, because inside a band there is no order.

Bookmaker Eighteen questions Published margin Unanswered
1xBet 6.71% on its whole football book 8of 18 Open
22Bet 5.34% on a single-competition sample 11of 18 Open

Strip, left to right: a filled square is a question the operator answers on its own pages, a hollow one is a silence, a struck one is a question its product cannot be asked.

Breadth, and what it is not

Sports lists on this site are counted from an operator's own navigation or its own event feed, and a longer list is a wider menu rather than a better book. BetFox carries the longest at 10. betPawa carries four, and every football market on a full crawl of it was football, which makes it a football book with a casino attached rather than a thin general one.

About prices in this market

Which Ghanaian bookmaker has the best odds?
On the four books whose whole football card could be measured the same way, the lowest margin is 5.08% and the highest is 6.71%. That is a real difference and it is the only comparison on this page worth making. Everything else here was measured on a different basis and cannot be lined up beside it.
Why does the same bookmaker have two different margins quoted elsewhere?
Because the top European leagues are priced two to three times sharper than everything else on the same book. Quote a book on its Premier League card and it looks unbeatable; quote it on its whole football list and it looks ordinary. Both numbers are real and only one of them describes what most people actually bet.
Does a lower margin mean a bigger tier?
No. Margin is not one of the eighteen questions and it moves nothing. The band is set by disclosure alone, and the sharpest-priced book on this page is not in the top band.
